Hello and let me explain my current situation. I have a 3-4 year old Lenovo laptop that was working fine until about 3 months ago when I was using it and then everything just froze. I couldn't click anything so I decided to force restart my computer. Upon restarting, it said Starting Automatic Repair and it went to the automatic repair screen, but it failed so I was forced to factory reset my computer. When i reset it, everything was fine, but then I got a error saying I'm in risk of a hard drive failure, or something like that, and I should back up my files and contact the manufacturer to see if I should get a replacement. Stupid me, I disregarded this message and didn't back up my files. A few months later my computer froze again and I had to force restart again. The same thing happened and I'm getting quite tired of this. So I am wondering how would I know if it's a hard drive failure and is it easy or expensive to replace the hard drive on a laptop?

Thanks in advanced,
Justin

Hi there fubber1,

I would also say that the HDD is failing/has failed.
In case your system still boots up, you need to back up all the data stored on the drive.
In case it does not, you can either use some data recovery tool for DOS mode or attach the drive externally to another system with SATA to USB adapter.(or internally with SATA and power cables)
After that, you can use some HDD testing tool for DOS or test it with OS based one while the HDD is attached to another system.

Replacing a hard drive isn't that complicated. There are tons of tutorials on the internet on how to do that. :)
