How to Disable Antivirus in Windows 8

Although it is strongly recommended that you should never disable the antivirus program that is installed on your computer, if you still want to do so for testing purposes or due to any other reason, you must keep one thing in mind that every antivirus program has different method of disabling it.

For example, if you are using BitDefender Total Security, you must right-click the icon of the antivirus application from the notification area at the bottom right corner of the screen, and click Show to initialize the interface. Once the interface is initialized, from the dashboard, you must go to the Antivirus section, and from there you can disable the real-time protection which will further disable the antivirus program for the specified period of time.

It is assumed that you, as a Windows 8/Windows 8.1 user would have a strong antivirus program installed on it. If due to any reason you haven’t, you can still rely on the Windows Defender which also works as a basic antivirus program.

As discussed above, every third-party antivirus application has a different method of disabling it, if you are using Windows Defender (which remains turned on until you do not install any third-party antivirus and/or firewall application), you can disable this built-in program by following the steps given below:

■Log on to the Windows 8/Windows 8.1 computer with the administrator account.
■From the Start screen, click the Desktop tile.
■Once on the desktop window, hover mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen.
■From the displayed Charms bar, click Search.
