Hello all,

I have a Dell T6700 past its warranty. I want to basically install an SSD as the boot drive. It currently has some sort of raid setup using 6 x 2.5 128gb drives that I want to take out. Can anybody guide me through the process of deleting the raid and just going with a normal setup from the SSD I want to install? Otherwise would you recommend creating a new RAID (using higher capacity and less disks) or is that alot of headache?

Any help would be great. Cheers

Booting from raid is to invite headaches in the future, so if you can avoid it if at all possible.

Assuming all the data on your existing raid array is backed up, you should be able to go into the bios and shut off the raid controller, or switch it to 'JBOD' mode (Just a bunch of disks).
after that you will need to re-format all 6 drives.

For the SSD - just install it like you would in any other case. plug it into a sata port on the motherboard, connect sata and power cables, and go from there.
Its also best to temporarily unplug the extra disks while installing windows. Then it wont get confused and put the boot sector someplace strange.

Hey thanks Kittle. I'm not even sure there are any sata ports on the mobo as they are on the raid card, so everything still needs to go from that. Will look for JBOD mode, though I remember watching someone do it and they had to go to some sort of disk controller menu at the start (F12?) and do some funky commands to delete the raid on each disk.
