Hello there,

I have been struggling to install a new graphic card in my pc, as everytime i try to disable the onboard video card using the device manager, it doesnt seem to work. Computer only boots to onboard.....if i plug the screen cable into new card the screen stays black.

I have entered the bios and i cannot set the onboard off. The only options are the enable pci-e as default and set onboard to ''auto''.

Btw i have download all drivers for the new card and it shows up in the device manager. But when i switch the cable from onboard to nvidia card, then screen stays black.

Any ideas? Thank you

I have a EVGA geforce gt740 4g ddr5
PSU is a Rosewill Glacier 80plus 600w

P.S: My PSU unit has a 8pin input and my GPU has a 6 pin input. The cable i use has a 8 pin end (which i plug into PSU) and the other end has a 6pin+2 which i plug into the GPU. Is the extra 2 plug the problem?

the 6+2 is for the gpu. so that sound right.
did the fan spin at all? which slot did you use for the gpu? which connection did you use to connect to the monitor?

Yes the fan spins no problem! I plugged it into the only pci-e slot that my mobo has. I have tried 2 things for monitor. Using a Dvi cable to the screen and using a dvi+vga cable o use on an older screen. Both do not work.

I have tried connecting my gpu into a friend pc and it works fine.
So you tell me i do not need to plug the extra 2pin connector for the gpu to work? Should i buy a hdmi cable and try that output with lets say my tv screen?
