Hello.
I have this old laptop Acer Aspire 1300 and I am replacing the CPU, just for an excercise.
I got to the CPU but I don't know how to disassemble it from the socket A462.
It does not come off. There must be a trick that I do not know.
I would have liked to add some photos of the part but apparently adding photos is not contemplated on this forum.
Can anyone help?
Thanks a lot and regards.

With or without a chip puller, you want to lift the CPU straight up to remove from the socket (with as minimal side to side pulling as possible). I think you could carefully pry the CPU out of that socket, without a chip puller if you did a side at a time, in minuscule amounts, until you can grip the sides and pull up by hand.

Typically true of modern configs, I don't recall this being the case with those old sockets.

With some variants, as I remember them, the CPU was just inserted into the socket and you needed a chip puller to remove them (hooked under edges of CPU and you pulled straight up to remove the CPU). Bending pins was very common, but easily corrected (when pins were larger and fewer).

On the left side of the CPU, there looks to be a tab on the socket itself, will that tab "slide" to the left a bit (retention mechanism)? If so, that would likely unlock the CPU and allow you to pull it out.

That is not a soldered CPU.

I shall try again later. I did try to move the tab in various directions but it seems to be one piece with the socket. I shall let you know. Thank you. By the way, just in case I bought through ebay a chip puller. It will take a few days to arrive.
