Hi there,

The firmware on the hard drive and the firmware on the motherboard are different. BIOS actually refers to a standard firmware...

Thanks for taking your time to answer my question. My hdd is not detecting in bios. I want to give it to RMA. But the bios version is require to register my hdd on their site. And it is marked mandatory (*marked). I am from Mumbai-India. And my hdd is Hitachi and there are few service center and I don't even know if it is near. I checked on Google and found WD (Western Digital) are taking Hitachi RMA in there service center. So I was trying to email to them if they are taking my hdd. And when I try to logged my complain on their site it want all the info like S/N, Model #and bios version.

Hi there,

The firmware on the hard drive and the firmware on the motherboard are different. BIOS actually refers to a standard firmware interface for PC firmware and not a particular piece of code. There are only a couple manufacturers of PC BIOS compatible firmwares. You will have to find out if they are asking for the firmware revision on the hard drive or the firmware revision on the motherboard. If they are looking for the firmware revision on the hard drive then this is not immediately visible. If they are looking for the firmware revision on the motherboard this can usually be found on the POST screen.

I would advise that you ensure that your motherboard's firmware is up to date first before filing the RMA. The latest firmware can be found on the manufacturers website even if it is many years old.

Good luck
