All I want to do is play minecraft via lan or hosted server. My issue is, I'm facing some connectivity issues which I am slowly determining that it comes down to network problems. The only thing I havent touch in a while is the port forwarding.

My trouble is I have two routers. One from Frontier, and a Linksys one I use personally which is directly connected to the Frontier router. Do I have to port forward from the main router or the linksys router? The linksys portforward was simple and straightforward. But the frontier router is asking me to choose a specific ip to forward, and the ports to forward. The port to forward for minecraft is 25565. But the specific ip... There are so many devices under the drop down. I can rule out most because they are for phones and tablets, but what is it asking to do? Am I choosing the specific ip of the device I want forwarded? So I need the IP of my computer? Or of my router? Am I over thinking this? Thanks!

Solution
Which router you have to port-forward depends on where the two hosts are connected. IF you have to go through a WAN port to get from host to server then you have to port forward. So if you have host connected to frontier router and server connected to your linksys then you have to port forward the linksys. If you are coming in from the internet you would have to port forward both.

If you are using the Linksys just to provide close WIFI then you should configure it as a WIFI access point and connect it LAN to LAN to the Frontier router.

Yeah the Linksys is an WIFI access point, for just my room. I have it connected to Frontier from LAN Port to Linksys "Internet Port". I only had plans for connecting to devices within the Local Network so the Linksys portforward should be fine. But the information about forwarding to the internet was very informative. Thank you.

IF you are using the "Internet" port on the Linksys, then you may not be using at an access point. You may still be using it as a router and that is part of your problem. Here is the sticky on using a router as an access point -- https://forums.tomshardware.com/thr...-router-to-a-wireless-ap-access-point.966884/ If you follow those instructions then any device connected to the FIOS router and to the ports on the Linksys will be in the same network and no forwarding will be required within your house.
