My hard drive is dying. I'm going to get a new one and i need to install Windows on it. My computer was prebuilt with Windows 7 preinstalled, so i have no disk. I do have the key for my version of Windows though, they were kind enough to put the key on a sticker on the side of the case for me. But when i go to Microsoft's site to download the ISO, and enter my key, i get this message.

"Error

The product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options."

What do i need to do to get my Windows 7 ISO fie?

This is my first time commenting on this site, and i don't know much about computer hardware. I just really don't want to have to buy Windows. I mean why would they give me my key if i cant use it again on a new HD?

Microsoft killed the digital river downloads for OEM products so there is no legit downloads for OEM copies of 7 anymore. If you didn't create the system recovery discs when you got the system then you'll need to borrow an OEM 7 disc(of the version you have), buy one, or buy the recover discs from the manufacture.

The Microsoft link only works for retail keys and the OP's is OEM.
