My mp4 file is 10 minutes long. I edit out parts leaving about 3 minutes. when I save the file , using best for computor, my 3 minute file is almost as long as the original 10 minute file, if I save as HD it is twice as large as the original 10 minute file.

thank you, works fine. had to use a higher bitrate as Movie Maker seems to have a less efficient codec, but file size is now reasonable.

Often when you re-encode and already compressed movie you end up with a larger size unless you use the same codec. I've done a few movies that were like 800mb, then when I looked at the output I was at over 2 GB. Took a few tries to sort out what was happening, the compression and encoding does not work efficiently when working with an already compressed file so you often end up with a larger file than you started with.
