How to enable onboard graphics

I want to have 3 monitors for my new build of an Asrock 880GM-LE mb with integrated Radeon HD 4250 graphics, Phenom II 965 cpu, 4GB ram, and a Radeon 5670 that has DVI, VGA and HDMI outputs. I use XP SP2 as the os.

In device manager I can only see the Radeon 5670 and not the onboard graphics. In the BIOS I have SurroundView enabled but no entry for Primary Graphics Adapter even though the manual shows this as being an entry – in my BIOS, latest ver 1.20, it is just a space!

When I installed the 5670 in the PCI slot I uninstalled the drivers for the integrated graphics.

Is it possible to use the integrated graphics with the 5670 and if so how do I enable it.

You can either have integrated graphics or dedicated graphics.Not both at the same time.
There is no other way to enable it than removing the HD 5670.

i spent many hours researching this same thing and turned up nothing, it does not seem possible to use your peripheral and integrated graphics at the same time.

The ASRock 880GM-LE supports ATI Hybrid CrossFireX.

Since that mATX motherboard has only one PCI-Express X16 slot and to be able to do Hybrid CrossFireX it must use the Integrated AMD Radeon HD 4250 Graphics Processor.

According to the ASRock 880GM-LE motherboard manual the IGP is also enabled along with the discrete graphics card when using the Surround Display feature.

Although I do see this in the manual "If you do not adjust the BIOS setup, the default value of “Share Memory”, [Auto], will disable VGA/D-Sub function when the add-on VGA card is inserted to this motherboard."

What do you have this Share Memory setting set to in your BIOS Setup?

Thanks very much - that got it recognized but had to reinstall the drivers for the 4250. And I thought I had read the manual! Was loking at one of those usb vga adapters but was not really keen on the idea.

I actually have not yet got the 3rd monitor, just bought 3 Dell 2209WA from their outlet at a good price, but I tested it by putting my second monitor on the 4250. I also note that I can have 4 monitors with this setup.

Just noticed that the max resolution on the 2nd monitor I can get is 1440 x 900 on the 4250 via VGA input.

The 1st monitor, on a DVI to VGA converter, allows 1680 x 1050 - which i was running on the 2nd monitor when connected to the 5670.

Is there some way I can get the 1680 x 1050 on the 2nd monitor. Both monitors are old 19" crt.

What did you set the Share Memory option's value to?

The value you set it to may determine the maximum resolution you can use. If you currently have it set to [32MB] try raising it to [64MB] or [128MB] or [256MB] or [512MB] and see if you can use a higher resolution.

I set the Share to 512MB, have 4Gb ram so not an issue.

Sorry I misreported the previous res - it was 1400 x 1050 on both crt monitors when on the 5670.

I managed to force 1600 x 1200 resolution, via Catalyst, on the 2nd monitor but 1400 x 1050 is not listed (although 1440 x 900 is) as it was when connected to the 5670.

The driver for the 4250 is 8.710.0.0
The driver for the 5670 is 8.673.0.0
Catalyst version is 2009.1001.2247.39050
And I have SurroundView Enabaled

What are the latest drivers for the cards and should I update the Catalyst

The 3 monitors will be the same and obviously would like them all to be at the native resolution of 1680 x 1050

Have you tried AMD's website for the latest drivers? Catalyst Software Suite Version 10.12 was released on December 13, 2010.

Yes I installed it and it does now allow me to go to 2048 x 1524 on both crt monitors. But I do get different resolution options for both cards. The 1st monitor, on the 5670, allows 1400 x 1050 but the 4250 connected to the 2nd monitor does not.

Will I be able to run the 3 22" LCD monitors at their native resolution of 1680 x 1050. This does not now show as an option whereas it did, with the earlier version of Catalyst, for both of the existing monitors

On the page where the available resolutions are displayed, is there a checkbox the says something about only showing ONLY the resolutions that the monitor is capable of displaying? Is it checked?

Yes and it is unchecked and it does list resolutions up to 2048 x 1536. I can live with it for now I just hope that when i get the 22" monitor it will be able to display the native 1680 x 1050 resolution.
