Hi, I'm looking to back up my hard drive because the PC it's coming from is broken. Reason I'm doing this because I'm sending it back to the manufacturer. So since it is broken, the only way that I know of checking the type of hard drive I have is through the computer's properties, and I can't do that...

So what's the other clear dead sign of the type Of hard drive I have? Btw, it came in an HP Pavilion desktop. Thank you.

The make and model of the hard drive should be printed in some fashion on the exterior of the physical hard drive unit (something like this http://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&hl=en&source=hp&biw=1600&bih=640&q=hard+drive+label&gbv=2&oq=hard+drive+label&aq=f&aqi=g1g-mS3&aql=&gs_nf=1&gs_l=img.3..0j0i5i24l3.576.4519.0.4765.28.28.3.1.1.0.174.2079.14j10.24.0.PwgmnzxQ7ws)

Also, the interface on the disk should give an indication of the drive type (sata http://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&hl=en&source=hp&biw=1600&bih=640&q=sata+interface&gbv=2&oq=sata+interface&aq=f&aqi=g4&aql=&gs_nf=1&gs_l=img.3..0l4.196.3547.0.3921.22.19.0.4.4.5.441.3177.2j6j0j4j2.14.0.B2Am2iDuyHs and IDE http://www.google.com/imgres?q=pata+ide+interface&hl=en&safe=off&gbv=2&biw=1600&bih=640&tbm=isch&tbnid=eWBqmK6-apPW1M:&imgrefurl=http://www.seagate.com/www/en-gb/support/troubleshooting_assistance&docid=u5aRWco0fwme8M&imgurl=http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/images/PATA_Interface.png&w=400&h=300&ei=LkyUT4L0K8aK2gWswuz-BA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=196&vpy=150&dur=1812&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=138&ty=68&sig=104856298182543261862&page=1&tbnh=136&tbnw=210&start=0&ndsp=23&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:67)

You can buy a cheap all in one interface at newegg for $20. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232002 to aid in backing up the drive (i personally use a NewerTech SuperSpeed USB 3 Universal Drive Adapter http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/767474-REG/Newer_Technology_NWTU3NVSPATA_USB_3_0_Universal_Drive.html Its $30 but much better quality)

If you don't feel like cracking open the pc, then do you know the Pavilion Model no. ?
