How to find out my optical bay size?

I want to install one of those adapters to install a ssd in the optical disk bay of my laptop.
But I see there are 2 different sizes, 12.5 and 9.5mm.

Not knowing which size mine is, and having a very poor support from the manufacturer, I removed the disk drive to measure with a ruler. Funny fact is that the plastic part that stands out of the laptop measures 12mm, while its rear side, where the sata port is located, measures 9mm.

Now I'm confused, how do I know the correct size of it?

usually optical drives are called 5.25 inch drives.
try looking at this:https://www.google.com/search?safe=strict&espv=2&biw=1280&bih=963&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=5.25+drive+dmension&oq=5.25+drive+dmension&gs_l=img.3...1485.2802.0.3010.9.9.0.0.0.0.101.654.7j1.8.0....0...1c.1.64.img..1.2.154.IU6lEC60wvE#imgrc=DsZA2factBYNlM%3A

My computer is a laptop, with a 15.6 inches scree =n.

The image you posted seems like one of a PC optical disk drive, much larger than the ones that fit in laptops.

Does it apply to the optical drive as well, because I'm not measuring a HD, but my optical drive.

go to "my computer", then right clik, then go to Device Manager - once opened, go to DVD / ROM drives and expand it by clikking on the + sign. copy the make & model number and google for it's specifications

the 12.5 or 9.5MM refer to how thick the drive is. On the spec sheet you'll see it's dimensions

i am sorry, i did not notice that you were talking about laptop drives
for laptops, i'm not really sure, try bringing it to a local store
