How to fit my P4 478 socket to fit in 475 socket?

can I make the CPU of my P4 478 socket to fit in 475 socket on another ASUS board? Do I have to add some adapter to make my P4 fit in 475 socket? I am reluctant to buy another CPU due to cost.

Dude,
If your cpu is a soc 478, YOU CANNOT fit it to a soc 475. The sockets refer to the amount of "PINS" that fits into the mobo cpu socket. This is what that generation of cpu needs to "communicate" and handle the comp traffic for your rig. For instance, on my rig I have an AMD Athlon 64 socket 939, so that means there is 939 pins under the cpu core. This is where the core sends the "messages & information" to the mobo and where ALLL the real work is handled and filtered to each respective componant hooked up to your rig.

As far as I know there is NO adapter for that purpose. I hope I explained it enough, and if anyone has anything else to add or correct, please do.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I don't believe a socket 475 exists. Like a previous poster said... those numbers refer to the pin count on the processor. I believe this previous post is what you were trying to ask...
