How to fix a black screen of latitude D620

I turn it on it shows Windowa XP then goes blank after that but i can hear the fan going

Does it show the "loading Windows screen", or does it show the Windows desktop? If it only shows the loading screen but never the desktop, then windows isn't loading all of the way.

If it does show the desktop then goes blank after a little while, then the problem probably has to do with the monitor or graphics card.
