How to fix and external hardrive

I recently dropped a Western Digital Hard drive and heard no bad sounds but the drive itself had a fainter than usual light on the front and the power adapter began to smell like an electrical fire any suggestions on whether the drive is bad or jus the adapter?

see if you can scavenge any data off it befor shes toast... shes toast . optical drives can only take so much abuse
