How to Fix Code 43 USB Error

Hello smart community

I need your help as I am recently getting code 43 error for 2 USB devices. Windows tells me "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems"

I have tried the method of switching off the PSU, unplugging the computer, removing all usb devices connected to the computer, leaving it in this state for at least 10 minutes, turning it back on, and then adding all USB devices back one-by-one. Still I get this message. Its the same for these 2 USB devices no matter which USB port I put them in.


I have also tried uninstalling each USB device in Device Manager then rebooting, yet still same issue for these 2 usb devices. This problem came out of nowhere and I really have no idea what more I can do to fix it. I also read this thread:

but following the method provided in the answer and still got this problem.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit

Any ideas?

open the case and check the usb connetions to the motherboard. they may have worked loose or some 1 may have been fiddling and got the wires crossed...
make sure you have a manual with you to check the correct wiring... (download the motherboard manual pdf from your manufacturers site, if you dont already have a hard copy)

Okay very quick update

I actually managed to somehow solve it by switching off the device and plugging out the usb cable that goes from the device to the computer. I even get the driver has been succesfully installed message- but, as soon as I open an application where this usb device is used it doesn't work in the application and then windows recognizes it as an unknown device again.... So with that, I don't think its a hardware issue.

sounds like your usb controller is damaged. try the usb devices in another pc and see if you get the same results.

No, it can't be that since other USB devices work perfectly in the same USB port.

sorry mate it looks like my dyslexia got the better of me...
what you mean is that a specific device your using causes your usb hub to stop functioning when you plug it in to your pc... then the usb device is damaged. its either bricked because some 1 didnt safe remove it (just yanked the cable without selecting remove device from the task bar) or its been physically damaged. either way theres little chance of rescue...
if its a hdd in an external cage you can try it in another cage as long as you can remove it from said cage completely including the sata connector/converter. as it may just be the small circuite that delivers the siganl and power and converts it from usb2 to sata. if that doesnt work i assume its bricked.

Well there was no option to safe remove it, so its probably physically damaged somehow...

I got this error when using a USB stick containing important data that I had not backed up and could not have recreated. I spent 7 hours getting increasingly concerned and researching and trying different solutions - including Recuva and Recover My Files data recovery software. Nothing worked. Recover My Files recognized a USB device was plugged in but returned a "No Readable Media" message. As a last resort I stuffed a paper napkin into the business end of the USB stick and waggled it around with a matchstick, to clean the terminals. I then inserted the stick into the port on the computer and bingo, it worked perfectly. I immediately backed up the contents. The stick is a Corsair Flash Voyager that lost its protective cover shortly after I acquired it 6 years ago. I guess the contacts can get dirty over time and if this causes a poor connection it can cause the device to fail.
