Odd problem:

1. Created word-processing document (doc1) last week - it printed ok (grayscale and color), and continues to print ok.

2. Created word-processing document (doc2) this week - it's print is very faint (grayscale and color).

3. I can copy text from doc2 into doc1, and it prints ok.

4. All 4 color cartridge levels are ok.

Solution
Found the answer - turn toner saver off. (Under "Printing Preference" / "Others" tab / "Advanced Settings" / "Image Options" / "Toner Saver".)
Thank you for taking the time to work with me. Actually your questions helped point me in the right direction.
doc set to print draft?

No, doc1 and doc2 are both set to standard color print, which I use for all my printing.

Thinking it might have something to do with my word processor - OpenOffice 4.1.5 - I switched to MS Word, but got the same problem. Then I moved the doc2 text out of doc1 into a new document, but got the same problem.

So far, the only way I can print anything is to copy and paste it into doc1.
