So I am using a i5 laptop, and for some reason when playing roblox (theres a button on the settings to show the performance) I only get 950+ mb of ram usage, even though I got 8 gb ram, and when im playing minecraft it's very laggy, for about 20 FPS. But before these problems occurred this laptop could hit 60 fps on both roblox and minecraft, why all of a sudden it lags????

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Can you please parse the make and model of your laptop and it's SKU as well? We can't offer suggestions generically until we've found out what you're working with. While here, now would be a good time to see what background app's are running during the OS startup. Speaking of OS, what are you working with? If Windows 10, please state the version(not edition) of the OS.

What might have changed since all was well?

It is normal for windows to hold some ram in reserve.

I see many complaints about gaming laptops not performing well.
Usually gaming while plugged in.
One common cause is thermal throttling.
Laptop coolers must, of necessity be small and light.
The coolers are also relatively underpowered.

My dad used my laptop for about 5 months, he added a another 4gb ram on to this laptop, after a 5 months he gave this laptop back, I think it's about the ram he added, or the files he uploaded in this laptop

To check out the ram,
Run memtest86 or memtest86+
They boot from a usb stick and do not use windows.
You can download them here:
If you can run a full pass with NO errors, your ram should be ok.

Running several more passes will sometimes uncover an issue, but it takes more time.
Probably not worth it unless you really suspect a ram issue.
