Hey all, I am getting frequent micro stutters while playing Far Cry 3 on Ultra in 4k, whereas in the past I had no issue. I turned Vsync on to see if that would fix my problem, but all it did is giving me a solid 60fps while standing still.

When moving around my fps will drop down as low as 45fps while my movement is very clunky and choppy. As state the last time I had this game installed I had no such issues.

My specs are:

ASUS TUF Dash F15 FX516PR
i7 11375h cpu
RTX 3070 85 watt gpu
16gb ddr4 3200mhz ram
1tb SSD at about 90% capacity

Monitor :

Samsung G5 Odessey 27" monitor.

Thanks in advance.

BIOS version for your laptop at this moment of time? Also, have you tried uninstalling all your GPU drivers with DDU then manually reinstalling with the latest version off of Nvidia's site, in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator?

1tb SSD at about 90% capacity
that 90% is, used or free space? Make and model of the SSD?

Far Cry 3
Where did you source the installer for the game?

Lastly, did you try undervolting the laptop's CPU and iGPU?

Woah that's a lot of questions lol. SSD is almost full at 88% used.

Not sure of the BIOS Version, it's the latest update that I know of.

I installed this game from Ubisoft Connect.

Not 100% sure but I believe I read a couple of years back that ASUS is preventing this laptop from having voltage changed or fan speed altered.

It's also worth noting that my other games have no issue, even newer ones such as BFV and MW2019.

What may be different now, compared to the past when all was well?

I see many complaints about gaming laptops not performing well.
Usually gaming while plugged in.
One common cause is thermal throttling.
Laptop coolers must, of necessity be small and light.
The coolers are also relatively underpowered.
If you run an app such as HWMonitor or HWinfo, you will get the current, minimum, and maximum cpu temperatures.
For intel processors, if you see a max of 100c. it means you have throttled.
The cpu will lower it's multiplier and power draw to protect itself
until the situation reverses.
At a lower multiplier, your cpu usage may well be at 100%
What can you do?
First, see that your cooler airways are clear and that the cooler fan is spinning.
Use a windows balanced power profile, not the performance profile.
Set a minimum cpu performance to something like 20%

It is counter-intuitive, but, try changing the windows balanced power profile advanced functions to a max of 90% instead of the default of 100%
You may not notice the reduced cpu performance.

The cooling fans and air ducts gets filled with dust over time. A pc is easy to clean, a laptop can be taken apart but only if you are confident in doing this type of work.

Not saying this is your problem but if it's never been cleaned out it wouldn't hurt.

I cleaned dust out a few months back after a about a year of no cleaning.
