How to fix my volume?

Our computer runs Windows xp and recently our volume just up and stopped working. The speakers are fine, but whenever you click the little volume icon to adjust, you can't click the mute button and it stays at max volume. Even when you try to drag it down, it just goes right back up. The volume isn't even playing when you plug headphones in! Can someone please tell me how to fix this???

Re-installing the audio driver may fix it. You can download it from the PC maker's website, in the support section.
