I installed SP3 a while ago but not 'till recently did I hear about the privacy issues that it created. I was reading an earlier post about someone who disabled the background file transfer and some other things that SP3 installed under your nose. If someone could please give me a run-down on how to remove any of these little gems that MS has so nicely provided to me, I would appreciate it greatly.

Right click 'my computer', choose 'manage'.
On the left, expand 'services and applications'.
Click on services, you'll see a list appear in the right window pane. One at a time, you will double click on the services we want to kill. In this window, select "disabled" as the startup type and then hit "stop" before hitting OK. The services you want are: Automatic updates, Background intelligent transfers, & Remote registry.
I recomend also disabled Messenger as you do not need it, and it's now being used as a spam venue.
While you're there, check and make sure you do not have any IIS components running, FTP, SNMP, or World wide web servers, unless you specifically want to run a web/ftp server. Make sure telnet is disabled as well.

A fairly comprehensive list of services settings can be found here:
