how to fix setup/installation error windows 8.1

i recently downloaded the windows 8.1 setup so that i could change my windows 7 ultimate. When i opened the setup file for windows 8.1 it will load up to 98% and will stop/disappear. It doesn't state if there is an error it just switches of completely as if i stopped/cancelled the setup. I am not sure what is the best solution so that i can upgrade to windows 8.1 pro. please help.
