[SOLVED] How to fix slow external hard drive

I have an old external hard drive Western Digital Elements (black) 1TB that is extremely slow. Copy and paste stops periodically and the speed is below 1 mbps. I tried searching a bit and tried hirens boot cd HDD scan which resulted in >500 RED sectors. I also tried HDAT2 to "remap" or "fix" bad sectors but it would take around 1 to 2 days for it to finish, I don't have that much time. Is this hard drive still worth the effort to fix? how?

It is dying, near dead.
Physically dying. There is no "fix".

Copy the data off to some other storage device, and replace.
