er is locked n the copy feature and shows the error message, " unplug printer and call tech support." I did that and all they told me to do was to leave it unplugged fo 10 min and then plug it back in. dd it several times and finally left it unplugged for several weeks. still getting the message. It has B200 at the top of it. is my printer fixable or not? thanks. if so, how since I have around $100 in ink supplies for it.

B200 Error on Canon:

1. Open printer
2. Remove ink cartridges
3. Un-install printhead
4. Clean back of the printhead (electronic pins) with alcohol (isopropylen cleaning alcohol if possible). Make sure the pins are 100% clear.
5. Turn off the printer (do not close it!) by plugging-off power cord (do not use power button).
6. Clean electronic pins in printer (the pleace where you install printhead). Make sure its 100% clean.
7. RE install printhead, then install ink cartridges.
8. Plug in power cord.
9 Turn printer ON normaly.
10. Check if printer is working normaly (no errors).

If error B200 remains = your printhead is damaged = (sorry to say) buy new printer.

My sister has the same printer as do I. She tried the cleaning of the head to no avail. She brought the printer to me and I put my printhead in her printer and voila, it worked just fine. I ordered a new printhead from Ebay which for the mx870 is a QY6-0073 for $49 and it works like new. It is worth buying a new printhead for these printers because of the inexpensive inks you can use for them and they are like workhorses. Best of luck to all!!

@clug - sorry, thought flying v was on this thread. Turn off the printer. Open the cover. Turn on the printer. After the cartridges have traveled more than 50% of their course, but before they finish their journey, close the cover. Doesn't always work first time, but always solves the problem - which comes up on my machine every couple of weeks or so.

Tried all the suggestions with no success. Since I have a second MX870 I traded the print heads. The error moved to my other printer and I proved the print head defective even though I had cleaned and serviced it. Now operating as new.

So, I assume you have had to buy a new print head. Is that economical, or should I just buy a new printer since they are so relatively inexpensive?

How do you remove and replace the printhead?

This worked for me!!! Thank you so much.

Many thanks for this link. Had to go through both these and try some different things. The first one appeared to work but when I tried doing a pattern check in the setup utility I got the same error. Tried second fix which appeared to work also then went through the maintenance utilities in setup i.e. head alignment, deep cleaning, roller cleaning, etc. Everything appeared to be normal, did a few copies just to check then reconnected to my wifi network, reinstalled the drivers, printed a test file and still operating normally. Thanks again!!

Many thanks for this link, Phillip. Had to go through these a couple of times to get it right.. Each one appeared to fix the problem. After trying the first one I got the same error when trying to print a pattern check. Tried the second and went through the maintenance utilities in setup, all still appeared to be good, connected to my wifi network, reinstalled the drivers, printed a test file and all still seems to be okay. Thanks again!!
