How to fix your sound card problem acer aspire

Hello,
my sound card cannot be accessed properly by my applications and other programs, i've re-installed my sound card drivers but it hasn't worked. i've uninstalled the driver itself from the device manager and let windows update re-install the drivers itself, but the mic and speakers are still not accessible.. can someone please help me? I've tried recovery options, but nothing has worked so far..
OS is Windows 7 Home Premium OA,
and laptop is an Acer Aspire 5734Z-4836, sound card driver initially installed is Realtek High Definition Audio. Please Help Me.

Is there a X over the Volume Control in the taskbar? Right-click it and select playback devices. Are your speakers listed there? Are they set to default? Check your recording devices too. Is the microphone present and set to default? Has your sound ever worked? Try to think of what has changed. You may have the wrong drivers or something. That's all I can think to check right now.
