Hello i have a compaq presario sr1950nx, over time i have been upgrading it a little... i am running windows 7 ultimate 32bit (x86) i am running an evga HDMI graphics card 8400GS 1GB, cpu is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core 4200+ 2.2Ghz 939 pin. my motherboard is an asus A8N-LA Nagami2-GL8E.

Now everything i have read says that my motherboard supports the upgrade im trying to do which is a cpu upgrade, to AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+ 939 Pin. i tried swapping it out and put new thermal paste. but when i turned it on the fans ran hard, and no display, not even splash screen. I have also been reading that i need to update my bios... I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO THAT.... there are no links or exe. files or nothing. i can find the files, but there is no EXE. attached to it... I was told i can use A8N-E bios update.. but again i do not know how to go about updating... please can you help me out with this... i need a step by step... and if you can provide links to proper software drivers etc... that would be great!!! thank you in advance!!!

Alright, so you upgraded your processor to what HP's website does, indeed say what the best processor your motherboard can support is, and it isn't working?

The processor you have may be damaged or dead, somehow. First, check for bent/broken pins. Gently slide a card through the rows and columns of pins. If there are any bent ones, the card will bump into them. You may also look at the side of the card as you slide it through, to see more clearly if any pins are broken.

If the pins are fine, then you should try it in another computer, if you can. If you can't, or, if it doesn't work, get a refund on your processor (assuming you ordered it online). Try contacting your seller. If the seller fails to respond in a timely manner, then, if you bought it from eBay, they have buyers' protection, so you can open a case with the seller, provided that the seller said the CPU was working when you bought it.

HP provides no official BIOS update for your motherboard. If you flash the wrong BIOS ROM, then you may render your motherboard inoperable.
