How to force an optical mouse to always read the surface?

Hello there, I have a Logitech M100, and it recently got wet. The problem is now that it's dried, it doesn't seem to "detect" that it is oriented properly except for about a 5-degree range while it's held in the air on it's side.

I don't pretend to know all the technical names for everything, but i know that the LED gets brighter when the mouse is on the operating surface and dims when it is lifted, however, it's only "brightening" when it's held on it's side and wobbled around.

I was curious if there was some way I could bypass that detection and force the mouse to attempt to "read' the surface even if it isn't on one? (Force the light to stay bright?)
