hey guys, i plan on building a computer. but then i heard some people say you need to format the hd before u can install or do something with the os. so, how can i format my new hd for windows 7 64 bit? or do i have bad info. and the hd is fine the way it is?

You will be able to format during the install. Also, no offense, but if you aren't sure about formatting and installing an OS, you may be in over your head. I just don't want you to severely damage something and be out a bit of money.

Anyone planning to build there own computer will have jumped through a few hoops and over several hurdles before coming to the easy bit - installing the OS.

Go for it wtran - if the first attempt fails - and there's no reason why it should - it's easy enough to try again and as Alaskan_IT says, Windows will do the necessary as part of the process.

There's a really good feeling to be had when you've built your first computer and see it fire up for the first time. Enjoy. 😀

Thanks guys. I know it would feel good to build my first computer anyway 😀.

So, I don't need to do anything manual to format my drive right? Just let Windows handle everything? As in, the first time I set my computer parts up. And turn on the computer then insert disk, everything will be O.K.? 😀

Also if there's any warning you guys have on building a computer, could you list them?

Thanks :bounce:

Personally I lay everything out in a wooden desktop and assemble it, plug it all into a Power Supply unit and test it out before fitting it into a case. If an electronic part is going to fail, it usually does it straight out of the box or five years down the line and I don't like disassembling that which I've just put together. 😀

Good luck - you know where we are.

Omg, thanks Jack. This video is preety good and handy. Thank YOU, and everyone else for helping me on this post. P.S. best answer if u didnt notice 😀 :bounce:
