How to format microSD card when Windows is unable to

I was trying to use my microSD card on my camera but it tells me to reinsert the memory stick so I did and kept getting the same message. I tried to format it on my computer (Windows 7) but it told me after going through the steps to do that it said that Windows was unable to complete the format. It told me to check to make sure the disk and drive are connected properly, make sure the disk is not read-only, and then try again.

How am I supposed to go about this when I have done all I know what to do? I have lost most of the pictures on there.

Formatting a disk destroys the data. You didn't lose most of the pictures if you formatted it, you destroyed all of them.

Also, your SD card is dead, so there's that too. Extremely unlikely that any data can be recovered, especially since you tried to format it. I'd toss it in the garbage and buy a new one.

I did try to format it but it wouldn't do it. I figured I would have to throw it away since it won't let me do anything to it.
