Hi
I just wanted to know if it is alright to format my new sshd with disk utility just like any other drive?
Also in Finder i can see all 999 GB of my Seagate Laptop 1TB!
I thought that maybe i would only see 991 GB because of the 8 GB SSD portion...?!
So how does this SSD portion work? Does the firmware of my SSHD move OR copy files to this portion?? If it copies then i would use twice the storage memory for some stuff???
Thanks

Solution
Of course you have to format the drive to use it with a Mac. Just treat it like any other hard disk and format it with Disk Utility. Don't expect a dramatic difference in speed; it's not like using a proper SSD.

The 8GB is in addition to the 1TB, but is invisible to the end user.

Solution
Hi,
I had to format it because my mac mini didn't recognize it! After format it does recognize it but it shows me 999GB of free space! So i am worried that he won't use the SSD as a cache! Because i thought that i wouldn't be able to fill the SSD by myself an so i would only see 991GB (999-8 cache)!?
Like this i could use up all 999GB and the SSD portion would have no use! Or is the 8GB SSD portion on Top of the TB normal HHD? (1TB HHD + 8GB SSD or are the 8GB included in the TB)?? Hope you understand what i mean

The format worked well
@Ijack:
I just saw that you answered to my question when i was just writing it!
So if i understand correctly the 8GB SSD is not included in the 1TB HDD and these 8GB are managed by the firmware of the SSHD?
Thank you
