How to get 3 monitors to work on xp

I am trying to get 3 monitors to work with my dell latitude 6400 with XP sp3.

I have the laptop docked with a display port adapter, dvi and vga cables. I dont need more than standard display as nothing I do is that graphic intensive. Having a third monitor so I can watch a couple status boards would be incredibly helpful.

When I try to extend the desktop across the three monitors, Windows recognises that there are two digital displays and a vga display but there is not an option to use more than 2.

Is there a way to do this or do I need to step up to win7?

It's probably a limitation of the laptop. You can't run more than two monitors off it.

Try with an external USB video card, long as you don't try to use it for anythng fancy like games or CAD it will work fine.

Thanks Hang, But I have seen it done at a tech show.

The tech said he did not use any additional hardware except a display port to dmi or vga adapter and the other two monitor ports on the docking station. Unfortunaly he was busy and wanted to push his product over a video trick and did not give me any more time or answers.

Was it done using that same laptop model? Could it have been just a splitter or did all 3 monitors show different displays?

All three had different displays.

I am begining to think XP is my weak link in this and will need to upgrade.

It's probably not XP, check with the laptop vendor. Most laptop video is limited to two outputs. I've run XP with at least 4 monitors, it depends on the video cards used.
