Looking for a place to live and stash all of your loot from your travels? You need a house! Here's how you can get one as soon as possible.
Step 1)Collect 5000 gold.
Pick up everything you can and sell it all until you can collect this much gold, if a shopkeeper runs out of money to buy things from you, you can wait a day or two and they'll have restocked so they can buy more.Once you've got 5000 gold you are ready to go find the house.
Step 2)Become a Thane of Whiterun.
There is a house for sale in Whiterun, but they won't sell to just anyone. You'll first have to complete a quest for them that will take you into the Deep Falls Barrow to find a dragonstone for the mage inside of the keep. Once you've done this, they'll provide you with the ability to purchase a house and become an official thane of Whiterun.
Step 3)Speak to The Steward of Whiterun.
Head to the Dragonsreach in Whiterun and find Proventus Avenicci here. Speak to him and he will have an option for you to purchase the Breezehome here in town. Cough up your 5000 gold to him for the key, and you'll have officially purchased your first house, as well as been assigned a housecarl too.
This house is located right beside the Warmaiden shop right at the entrance to town. It doesn't look like much, but you can buy additional decoration options from Proventus Avenicci at any time to spruce it up. Keep saving that gold and your house will be looking good in no time.
