How to get computer to recognize my laptop hard drive

Hello,
my desktop computer won't recognize my laptops hardrive when i plug it in through ush or on the inside i know it still works because it did on another computer i have windows vista and the hard drive is from a gatway laptop but i don't know the model number

Does it show up in BIOS?
Does it show in disk management?
