Hello Guys
I have an old Pentium 4 PC. Please see below for my PC’s information/specifications...

Processor : Intel Pentium 4 520 (2.80 GHz)

  • ■ Code Name : Prescott
    ■ Package : Socket 775LGA
    ■ Technology : 90nm
    ■ Instructions : MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3

Motherboard : FOXCONN

  • ■ Model : G41MD
    ■ Chipset : Intel G41
    ■ Southbridge : Intel 82801G (ICH7/R)

BIOS : American Megatrends Inc.

  • ■ Version : 080015

RAM : DDR3 2X2GB
HDD : 80GB
Current OS : Window7 Professional

Nowadays my computer is working too much slow. Beside sometime I am facing some problem to play HD videos. My PC was working fine but since the previous month my PC is working very slow. For this reason I have added more 2GB RAM (now I have 4GB installed). Can you guys suggest me any upgrade or any way to get the best performance of my PC as I have got before ?

Thanks in advance.

Solution
Don't use that Pentium, it's for LGA 1150 motherboards- yours is LGA 775. The best CPU that will work in your motherboard is a Core 2 Quad Q9560, according to the internet. (Verify with manual and check to see if there is a needed BIOS update before doing this.) And increasing your disk size won't do much for performance. Going to an SSD, however will. 120GB SSDs are about ~$40 these days and give a substantial performance boost. I would also highly recommend buying a new GPU, a GT 710, GT 730, R7 240/250/250X are all good options.
Hi
Thanks for the reply. If I will use INTEL PENTIUM DUAL CORE G3240-3.10 GHz and will use 350GB or more HDD than will I get good speed ?

One more question that if I will only upgrade the HDD and will use 350GB or more HDD than will I get some good performances ?

Go to the system settings, and find Visual Effects, then uncheck some of the boxes. Uncheck some of the things like animate, fade, slide. Just uncheck some until you notice a big difference from unchecking a certain one, then recheck it. This can speed it up a lot. Also, if you can find Paging File Size, change the initial and the maximum to the recommended instead of the preset size. Also defrag the HDD, and do an AVG Antivirus Free check to clean everything up a bit. Hope I helped!
