If you have settings that come and go in the BIOS, for no reason, then there is a problem. If there is a newer BIOS version, then I'd maybe try to update to that, or if the problem started AFTER you upgraded the BIOS, then going backwards might be the thing to do, but I'd be surprised if either of those was much help to be honest. Settings just don't "disappear" for no reason.
BIOS settings don't "change". They are ALWAYS there. It's not like Windows where settings change if the hardware is not present. Motherboard hardware is ALWAYS present. It does NOT change. The only thing that can change are the devices that are installed in the motherboard. So if you have an add in LAN ethernet adapter, then it's probably failing. If it is an integrated network adapter that is part of the motherboard, then those settings would still be there whether the device was working or not. They would be hard coded settings that don't go away and then come back. If they do, then you have a problem with your BIOS ROM or motherboard itself.

If you've removed the CMOS battery for more than five minutes and still have the same issues, then it is not a settings problem, but a failure somewhere. Given the age of that hardware, a motherboard failure is not only likely, but probable.
