Question How to get my gtx 770 to run Hogwarts Legacy?

Just got Hogwarts legacy. It launches, then crashes right as the music starts. I am wondering if there's a way to better optimize my gpu for the game, I've seen people use modded drivers, maybe that would work?

Step 1, purchase or build a new rig.
Step 2, enjoy the game :)

In all seriousness that machine sounds too old, this is a very demanding game.

I would use a 3080 or better on this game, ideally a 4070TI or better.
Honestly, they gave the game so many performance patches now and just recently fixed VRAM memory leak issues that the game now runs very well on the older 3070Ti, even with Raytracing on; it used 6GB VRAM at 1080p, and 1440p isn'tso much more demandingas to fill up the remaining 2GB VRAM. Unless you want to play on 4K, that is, then it gets tight. But I doubt that someone with a 770 even aims for that, or at least I don't hope.

I don't see any way that a GTX 770 could possibly run Hogwarts Legacy because, other than the obvious lack of performance, its DirectX12 support is spotty at best. TechPowerUp's GPU database explains this well:

"The GeForce GTX 770 was a high-end graphics card by NVIDIA, launched on May 30th, 2013. Built on the 28 nm process, and based on the GK104 graphics processor, in its GK104-425-A2 variant, the card supports DirectX 12. Even though it supports DirectX 12, the feature level is only 11_0, which can be problematic with newer DirectX 12 titles."

I can pretty much guarantee you that there's no chance that a GTX 770 would ever be able to play Hogwarts Legacy because of this. Even if the GTX 770 could run a new DX12 game like HL, even at 720p (assuming that 720p exists in that game), the frame rate would be so low that it would be a slide-show and completely unplayable.

It's possible that modified drivers could get it to load but no drivers could possibly make the GTX 770 fast enough for HL to be playable. Your system is just too old for it and you'll have to make some serious upgrades to it if you want to play the most graphically-challenging game of 2023.

Wow it's a funny world we live on, looking at this somebody with inadequate hardware can complete downloading the game but cant play because of not meeting the hardware requirements, but somebody with all the right hardware requirements cant play because it wont download for them!

(update: because of the game being patched too regularly, people with slower internet could not complete the download because it restarted every time the updates came through)
Don't mind me, I'm just speaking my thoughts on this Hogwarts legacy pc game, and how it was to be received.

The minimum specs are for 720p.
They are, but you actually can go higher like the person I mentioned above. A 970 isn't that much faster than a 960, yet they play on 1080p with a mix of high, low, and medium settings just fine. Or, well. Did. They seem to have an issue since the last patch, mainly with the game permanently slowing down when switching windows. Also, my old 1070 managed a little below 60 FPS with high-ultra settings in 1080p, which isn't possible according to the recommendations, either. They are being quite conservative for the lower tier. Still, a 770 is simply too slow no matter how you slice it.

Yes, and even if you could get the game to load, even at 720p, it would be unplayable. I'm sure that you'd be able to play games like Borderlands 3 or GTA V but games like Hogwarts Legacy can even bring my RX 6800 XT to its knees.

I'm sorry to have to give you this bad news, it brings me no pleasure. The fact is that even cards far more powerful than the GTX 770 wouldn't be usable for Hogwarts Legacy.
