How to get my maxtor onetouch 4 plus 640 gb to reinstall

Hi, just wondering if anyone has a solution for my Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus 640Gb Hard Drive?
It wont recognise when it is connected to my Laptop, It just comes up as a mass storage device!
Any thought or remedies out there that may help please?????

try updating your usb drivers...could be a damaged usb driver. also see if there any updated software on maxtor web page. if the drive comes up fine on another pc...the you have a damaged windows file.
