How to get my parents to get me a 1.5k gaming laptop

My parents aren't really on board of the idea of getting me a 1.5k laptop.[nzd currency]. The laptop i'm currently using is a mac air 2012 and has been used by 2 other people.[not for gaming] and the laptop i'm using for school work is a mac air 2016 but i'm borrowing from my mum. She's asking me what the difference between the 2 are.
