How to get new motherboard to work in already running PC?

Had a PC, changed the motherboard, not sure how to get it to work? I have the install disc, but I don't know how to get it to run. The computer starts up, the MSI logo appears, then it goes to the screen asking if I want to start Windows 7 normally (obviously doesn't work), or run repairs (doesn't fix anything).

Pressing the key to get into the BIOS opens up a tonne of options on the command prompt style screen, don't know if they're any good.

What do I do?

Try loading the SATA driver when asked where to install Windows (click load driver) or set SATA to IDE in BIOS and the Windows installation should work without the driver.

Do I need to reinstall Windows? I bought the computer as a complete thing rather than building it and purchasing the OS, does this mean I need to buy a Windows 7 install disc?

According to the Win7 OEM license yes. The OEM license is valid only for that motherboard.

Have you thought about Windows 8 at all? With Windows 8 you can change motherboards even with an OEM(system builder) license.

Nah, Windows 8 doesn't look very appealing for what I want.

Try and see if it does work with SATA set to IDE.

Ok. I'm pretty useless so how exactly can I do that?

Press Del at startup, enter BIOS, go to the main menu, look for SATA configuration and see what's the setting. If AHCI, set it to IDE. The board's manual should help.

I cant see anything like that on the main menu. It says the date and time, then under that SATA Port 1,2,3,4 and wjats in them. I dont see AHCI so IDE anywere?

If I go to boot priorities and set the DVD drive to first, will that make it read the MSI install disc and work?

No, what's the board model? I'll look for the manual.

MSI H61M-P31 (G3). The manual I got with it is just a stupid little leaflet.

You're right. The manual is incomplete. Click the Advanced tab and look for a setting SATA configuration.

Rapid start just says Rapid Start is disabled. Just looked in "Integrated Peripherals", it has a SATA Configuration subsection, it says "SATA mode Disabled".

Options are Disabled AHCI and IDE, should I try it with IDE?

Was it supposed to have fixed it or is there something else to do? Options remain as repair or start normally, starting normally fails.

Just tried it, it ends and says Windows cannot solve the problem automatically

Then you'll have to get a Windows install DVD (7 x64 I'd say).

Alright. Would it do anything if I stick the old motherboard back in and run Sysprep?
