You won't believe this, but I am talking about the "Uplink" (the HL demo)
; )

A new friend of mine never heard of even FPS games before (yes, I guess he
had been living under a rock all this time), so as is expected, I thought of
introducing him to HL with the Uplink first. And before I do it, and while
having it here in my pc, I couldn't resist to play it ; )

So, does anyone here remembers how to get out of this tower?

Thanks guys,

Jay

Hope I haven't got you all exited seeing a response and then finding
that I don't have a definitive answer.

Is there anything to jump on? Or a ledge round the side? Or a switch to
throw or shoot?

It's possible you're at a dead end and you need to go back another way.
Can you see a definite exit?

do you mean the tower with the communications dish at the top? if
memory serves: you have to align that up by turning a wheel, then a
load of marines come and storm the place. once youve killed them all,
you cant go out the way you came in because it's been booby-trapped.
look for one of the pipes that's letting out steam, close the valve and
climb down the ladder. hope that helps!

How could anyone remember that particular little part in a Demo that
happened over 6 years ago?

I should post a link to a few screenshots. I shall do that later on.
It's for sure not a dead end, as I can't go back (the door is locked).
The only 3 things available to be controlled are a valve that controls some
kind of pipe, found at the first floor. Then at the 2nd floor, one is
supposed to change the direction of some kind of satellite dish with another
valve. And next to it, to its left, there is a big red button, and to the
farthest left there is a little computer screen showing a message (I think).
I guess it'll be better once I come back with the screenshots.

Thanks blork, but I have already turned that wheel many times, and nothing
happens : (
Oh! I know what it is!
Instead of just pressing the keyboard button, I had to keep it down in order
for the dish to rotate further.
I had the same problem with HL2 at the canal actually.
Finally!

This is missing my diplomacy. Speaking of diplomacy, where is CF?

Glad Blork helped you sort it but I am downloading it to play it again
anyway - you gave me an itch I need to scratch.

Actually, since I was at that, I figured I'd get the demo for OF too ; )
I have the full versions, but since I'm still recovering from tendonitis
just having a little taste is enough.

Hi,
thanks for turning me on to the HL demo. I play every mod I can find. I
love this game and the mods are great because I don't have HL2 yet. I
downloaded this demo today and finished it tonight. The room you are
stuck in, right after you click on the red button, you have to run back
to the elevator before the men coming down see you. Then go down the
elevator to the first floor, and from there pick them off. You should
have plenty of grenades left over from your jumps through the big red
and blue storage crates.
Those gargantuas always scare the cr*p out of me!

I got over my tendonitis by getting a Logitech optical trackball. It's
not as spiffy as an optical mouse but it does the job and I can play
for hours and never have any problem.

ivorybow, thanks a bunch for your advice, very kind of ya : )
I have tried a trackball for FPS games before and I found it very hard to
get used to. I do use it for my laptop though, and a digital tablet
(replacing the mouse) for the desktop, and I find that this combination
helps me somewhat.
