I have a Vizio sound bar above my PC. I usually use my headphones but when I want to use the sound bar, I need to turn it on and switch it to the default audio device in my settings. What can I do to have my sound bar automatically play whenever I turn it on?

Assuming your headset is easy to unplug, first have only the optical out connected, set it to default, and then plug in the headset. If the headset doesn't override the default setting, set it to default. Now when the headphone is plugged in it should switch the headset, and when it's not it should go to the optical out. You CANNOT turn on the soundbar that way though, you'll still have to manually do that.
your system needs to set a '"default" audio device. and whatever you're using at the time needs to be set as default.

anything plugged into the motherboard/soundcard 3.5mm front or rear jack is going to be set as default 1st.

i don't believe you can make this sound bar be auto-selected just by turning it on. maybe if you leave it on 24/7 or just turn it on before you power on the PC. does it connect via USB or 3.5mm?
chance if it is already powered on before Windows loads it will be set as the default device. then when you plug in your headphones you should get a popup asking if you want to switch to font panel jack. when unplugging the headphones it should default back to the soundbar.
