How to get to Setup Utility with windows 8.1

I have a Gateway DX 4860 pc with windows 8.1, how do I get to the Windows setup utility?

Do you mean BIOS Setup? (which, strictly speaking, has nothing to do with Windows).

Press & hold the 'Esc' key as soon as your PC starts up.

I tried that and it does work but it only stays on the screen for a second
and then continues to boot.
Do I need to hold a constant pressure on the Esc key or let off the key as soon as the Bios screen appears?
The Bios screen doesn't stay up long enough for me to read any information!
