how to increase voltages to CPU

can i increase voltages from stock to what is considered a safe range like 1.2 at once or do i need to go there incrementally and with baby steps?
Trying to overclock the i7 8700k on a msi z370 a-pro mobo. Feel as if im not really finding any straightforward answers on this one. thank you

alright, thanks for the link, will read it! But what do you define as a long time in that regard? 1 year? less?

some people claim they can overclock to 5+ GHz on some poor VRM motherboard which will fry the motherboard if you run for long time, which means several years.
