Hey guys! I just recently bought myself a 2TB HDD because my other 1TB storage drive was running out of space. I've plugged the HDD in and everything, I just am not sure how to go about formatting it properly. Coming from Windows 7 it was simple as I could just pop in a flash drive or CD of the Windows 7 Installation and it'd format itself. Now that i'm on Windows 10, i'm not so sure. Is there an easier/more efficient way than that? Can I do the same exact thing on a Windows 10 flash drive? Thanks.

Solution
Use the following steps to format a drive from Windows 10 Disk Management:
1. Right click This PC>Manage>Disk Management
2. Right click on the drive or partition to format and click on Format.
3. Select the NTFS file system and set the Default Allocation Unit Size.
4. Select Quick Format
5. Click OK to format the drive.

It's recognized but I still need to format it, I just wanted to know the best way to do that on the new Windows OS.

I tried the format from a Windows USB since I had one lying around. Just clicked NEW and then FORMAT on it, seemed to work fine. Thanks!

I personally like to format drives with third party Disk or Partition Managers such as Minitool Partition Wizard, Easeus Partition Master, Aomei Partition Assistant, etc. They have more functions and are more versatile... some of them can see small unallocated disk spaces that the Windows Disk Manager can leave between partitions without your knowledge... Active Partition Manager and sometimes Aomei can see them. And since you may want to partition the large HDD, a third party Partition Manager is best suited for the task.
