How to install a SSD alongside HDD,without making the SSD the boot drive?

I've recently thought about getting a SDD and researched about it.I can't seem to find how to install one without making it the boot drive.Can someone explain to me how to do it? I know that its better to have it as one but I have decided so don't try to convince me.Can someone explain to me how to do it?

Plug it in , start windows, open disk management , format it & assign it a drive letter.

Its as simple as that if you just want to use it as a secondary drive.
