I'm building a custom PC and I'm wondering when I turn my PC on, how or what do I have to do to install the SSD when I turn on my PC? If that makes sense? I saw on a video that I need a CD? I just need a general idea of what Ima need to do.

Solution

Well, no.

1. How many hard drives are in this system? The SSD and...?
If more than 1 drive, then you need to disconnect all the other ones except the SSD.
After the OS is installed, then you reconnect the other ones.

2. After the OS, then you have to install the drivers for your hardware. Motherboard, audio, LAN, video card, etc, etc
3. You have to do all the OS updates. It will do that by itself

4. Then....you get to install whatever applications YOU use. Antivirus, browser, games, Steam client, etc, etc...
1 turn off the computer
2 touch the power supply or another unpainted metal surface to ground yourself (repeat if you move your feet or every 5 mins)
3 open the computer case
4 install SSD to drive tray inside the case- see leaflet/manual that came with ssd
5 plug in SATA cable to the SSD and motherboard, plug in SATA power cable to SSD
6 close the computer case
7 boot the system and verify the SSD is seen in the BIOS/UEFI
8 change the boot order if needed

the drive is installed and can be either
prepped for an OS install
Cloned from existing windows installation on a hard drive
use as secondary fast storage

Well...you purchase your OS.
If Windows 10, it will comes on a DVD or USB. Whatever you choose.

Initially, once the PC is all put together, you press the power button.
There being no OS, it will tell you this. (assuming the monkeys at Fry's put it together properly)

Then, you open the DVD drive and insert your DVD
Reboot
Hopefully, it will boot from that DVD
Follow the directions. Click click click.

OK.
So are you semi-straight in how to proceed once the thing is put together?
