Hey guys -

So I am trying to give me PC to my friend. It has SSD and HDD. I have my Windows 7 on the SSD but I want to wipe out everything before I can give it to him so he can install his own Windows on the SSD.

Is this possible? If so, how?

Thanks a lot guys!

Hello sjp3568,

If you have your Windows Installation Media this would be an easy way of doing it:

- Put in the Windows Installer CD into the PC and restart
- Boot into the installer
- Go through the installer until you get to the point where you choose what drive to install the OS on
- Go to advanced
- Select the drives one by one and choose 'delete' to remove the current partition tables on the drives
- Quit the intstaller before going forward past this point and actually installing Windows

This should make the drives 'blank slates' for your friends Windows installation and additional use.

This doesn't zero the drives, so technically the data isn't totally wiped. Depending on the level of trust and what data you currently have on...

This doesn't zero the drives, so technically the data isn't totally wiped. Depending on the level of trust and what data you currently have on the PC you might want a more thorough solution such as a full zeroing software like DBAN: http://www.dban.org/#

How? no different than if the machine has HDD only.

So before you give it to him, you boot your installation media, or your recovery media, there you will be able to obliterate the SSD's partitions. Then just hit the power button and box it.

When he gets it, is like brand new, he will be asked to insert a bootable media.
