How to install Games from another computer to steam?

I bought A physical copy of DOOM today from gamestop for my pc, but it is only one disk. My buddy bought it on steam and has the full game on his pc. He copied his game files over to my external Hard Drive so that I wouldn't have to use up all of my data. Here is my question, How do I get STEAM to recognize the game files. I have space on my SSD but I just need someone to walk me through getting this to work. Thank you all so much

Put the data on your steam folder, games are usually are stored at:

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common

When the data is there just hit the install button, steam will recognize the existing archives and it will download anything that it's missing.
