How to install motherboard drivers without os

Had bad malware that required changing harddrive. Installed new WD harddrive then tried to install XP. While setup was formatting new harddrive, system shutdown. Tried again, same result. The malware must be into the motherboard. Will reinstalling motherboard drivers help?
