Windows 10 offers a lot, including a little bonus feature for those of us who also like Linux. A fully functioning Linux Bash Shell within Windows. If you would like to install the Linux Bash Shell in Windows 10 and experiment a little, here’s how.

You will need Windows 10 build 14328 or the Windows Anniversary Update to access this feature.

Install the Linux Bash Shell in Windows 10
For those of us who have used both Linux and Windows, it is now harder than ever to pick a favorite. Previous to Windows 10, it was a no-brainer as Linux was easier to use, more reliable and offered a lot more control over your computer. The inclusion of the Bash Shell in Windows is to enable Android interactions. Fortunately, it isn’t limited to just Android and can work with a range of Linux apps. Think Wine (sort of) but in reverse.

1. Navigate to Settings, Update & security and For developers.
2. Click Developer mode and click OK in the confirmation window that appears.
3. Navigate to Control Panel, Programs, Programs and Features and Turn Windows features on or off.
4. Select ‘Windows subsystem for Linux (Beta). If you don’t see this option you may not have build 14328 or the Windows Anniversary update installed. Update as necessary.
5. Reboot your computer.
6. Open a CMD window as an administrator once rebooted.
7. Type ‘bash’ and hit Enter.
8. Bash will now install. Allow it to complete.
9. Open Bash by using the app icon or by typing ‘bash’ into a CMD window.

I must admit to having not played with it much so far but the feature is supposed to be almost fully featured. Let us know below how you get on.
